So your Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) got noticed by a famous company, and you have been asked to meet them for a face to face interview. Congratulations Ladies and Gents! The fun is about to begin.

Preparation

Interviews are like examinations, where you will need to prepare yourself and research all the necessary references and documents about the company. Do an extensive research on the company that you are applying to and understand the business itself. For example, their products and services. Thus, Find if they have an updated website, review what is written about the companies reputation, or research the people who will be interviewing you. Nowadays, all research can be searched in Google and other searching platforms. For example, LinkedIn is a social networking site where it is designed for the business community. All the people that are professionally active in the industry have a LinkedIn account to easily connect them with other people (Rouse, 2016).

Question

It is very important to focus yourself on thinking ahead when questions are being asked. Believe me, you do not want to caught off-guard by difficult questions.  You can start preparing by asking one of your friends, families or relatives to give you interview questions, or you can hire a professional interviewer to guide you along the way.  By practising, it gives you more confidence and preparedness. Asking for a feedback is also helpful to know if your tone, answers, and body language are correct.

These are the general types of interview questions often asked:

  • Tell me about yourself?
  • Why did you apply for this job?
  • Can you tell me your knowledge about our company?
  • Is there a reason why you left your current job?
  • What interests you about our job?
  • Can you describe your work style?
  • What do you consider to be your greatest strength?
  • What do you consider to be your weaknesses?
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  • What are your salary demands?
  • Are you married? – Not all interviews ask you about your personal life but if they do you have to be ready.

Social Media

Employers often check your background on the social media, like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media sites. Always make sure that what you post is acceptable. Another useful tip is to try searching your name on Google and see what is posted.

Big Day

Before going to the interview make sure you have a checklist of things of what documents to bring and always double check. Wear an appropriate attire and show up neat and groomed. And lastly, manage your time and be there as early as you can.

To end with,  by understanding the practical steps you can do to prepare yourself for a job interview. Early preparation is really the first step on how you will manage to prepare and be more confident for your interview.

Go get that interview and impress them. Goodluck!
